Planning a Beach Trip with Your Fur Baby
Summer is nearly over, so make the most of what’s left of it with an impromptu beach trip with your best buddy! Here’s what you’ll need to do to make sure you and your furry friend have the pawfect getaway.
Find fur-iendly accommodation.
If you’re staying overnight, you’ll need to find pet-friendly lodging. Find out if there are any weight or breed restrictions, and what amenities the hotel offers for pets. Don’t forget to ask whether pets are allowed to stay in your room unattended, and adjust your itinerary accordingly.
Ensure the beach is dog-friendly.
Some beaches allow Fido to roam free, while others have strict leash policies. Look up the leash policy at your local beach before you go, and double check whether your pal is allowed to play in the water.
Bring a towel, plenty of water, and doggie waste bags.
Sandy pawprints are cute -- except when you have to clean them off your car seats! Pack an extra towel so your buddy doesn’t try to bring some of the beach home with him. Oh, and don’t be a litterbug. Leave nothing behind but your foot (and paw) prints!
Scope out pet-friendly restaurants or pack a picnic.
After a long day of fun in the sun, you and your canine companion are bound to work up an appetite. Before you go, check to see if there are any dog-friendly restaurants near the beach. Or pack a picnic with plenty of sweet, dog-safe treats, like frozen strawberries, apple slices, and blueberries. Bone appetit!
What are you waiting for? Grab your gear and go! And try to resist the puppy dog eyes you’re sure to receive when it’s time to leave.
