Meet Penny: The Dog Who Chose Me

Meet Madi & Penny.

What’s your dog’s nickname? Do they have more than one?

Penny has quite a few nicknames! I call her PenPen, Munnis, Munnis to Society (when she's being a crazy girl), and Mamas. Somehow, she answers to all of them.

What's the best memory you have of you and your dog?

The best memory I have with Penny is the day I met her. My mom was actually the one who adopted her, not me. But the moment Penny met me, she came over, sat beside me, and never left my side again. From that day on, she decided I was her person.

What's your dog's most dramatic habit?

She spins in circles when she's excited lol! It's like watching a tornado, doggo style. Penny is full of personality. Whenever she gets excited, she spins in circles like a little tornado. It always makes me laugh.

What’s the naughtiest thing your dog has done?

She's definitely had her naughty moments too. Penny had goat siblings, and she would actually break into their area just to roll in goat poop. More than once! I never understood the appeal, but she seemed to think it was the best thing ever.

What’s your dog’s funniest personality trait?

One of the funniest things about Penny is that she doesn't really care that people exist, unless they have food or want to play with her. It's Penny's world, and the rest of us are just living in it.

What would Penny say if she could speak?

If Penny could talk for a minute, I'm pretty sure she'd ask for a mountain trip so she could swim in the river, request a pup ice cream, and suggest that I never go back to work again.

What makes her super happy?

While she enjoys both the beach and the mountains, we're mountain girls. We live in the mountains part time, and that's definitely where Penny is happiest.

What does Penny do that makes you smile?

One of the things I love most about Penny is how she seems to know exactly when I need her. Whenever I'm having really bad anxiety, she'll come over, cuddle up on my chest, and somehow it stops it every time.

What makes her so super special?

Penny is also incredibly special to me for another reason. I lost my first dog when she was just nine months old, and after that, I told myself I'd never get another dog. Penny didn't give me a choice. She picked me as her dog mama, and although she doesn't know it, I truly think she saved me by making that choice. It felt like she instinctively knew I'd need her during this season of my life.

What three words would you use to describe your dog?

If I had to describe Penny in three words, they'd be tough, adventurous, and loyal. She's one of a kind, and I'm so grateful she chose me.
