7 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better than Humans

Dogs have been man’s best friend for thousands of years for one simple reason: they’re better than us! Here are just a few reasons why.

1. They’re excellent at making us feel better when we’re stressed or sad.

When you’re stressed about your upcoming exam or upset about a recent breakup, which would you rather do: play with a puppy, or visit a friend? If you’re anything like us, you chose the puppy, because puppies are adorable and won’t judge us for our bad life choices.

2. They went to space before we did!

One of the first animals to go into outer space -- and the first animal ever to orbit the Earth -- was a Russian Samoyed named Laika. Although this precious pup died on the journey, she paved the way for human space travel. If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have the International Space Station or the option of colonising Mars. Thanks, Laika!

3. They get away with murder. (Literally!)

If your dog kills a bird, does he go to doggie prison? Nope. The worst he’ll get is a slap on the paw. Then he’ll give you that sweet, sad puppy dog look, and you’ll give him his favorite treat. No harm done.

4. They’re in better shape.

Go on, try to race your dog. See who gets tired first. (It probably won’t be your furry friend.)

5. Their sniffers are more sensitive (and accurate) than machines.

Dogs can detect health problems, including cancer and low blood sugar levels, by smell! In fact, a British organisation called Medical Detection Dogs employs a team of 8 canines who sniff out as many as 3,000 potential cases of cancer a day. Lucy, one of the dogs on the team, has a 95% success rate for detecting early stages of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer. If we’re so smart, why aren’t our machines that successful?

6. Their main motivations in life are food, naps, and cuddles.

You’re probably reading this email while preparing (and dreading) going to work. While you’re crunching numbers and guzzling coffee, your dog will spend the day drooling on the couch, waiting for you to come home to feed and cuddle him. We humans think we’re the smartest species, but dogs are the ones who got the last laugh.

7. They love us unconditionally.

How many romantic partners or friends have you lost over superficial things like appearance, money, career, and status? Your dog doesn’t care how much you make, what car you drive, or what you look like. As long as you show them unconditional love and kindness, they’ll love you wholeheartedly until the end of their life. We wish we could say the same for some humans.Dogs are cooler, smarter, and more loyal than us, it’s true -- but we can eat chocolate, so maybe we humans have got something going for us after all!Love and friendship x
