Akansha & Pokey

@petitepokey

♡ Your bestie’s name, age and breed?

Pokey, 3 years old, boston terrier

♡ What is it like having a dog as a best friend?

Pokey is my little shadow. She follows me everywhere, panics if she can’t see me, jumps over the moon when I come home and only has eyes for her mamma. She is the best part of my day, everyday.⠀

♡ What is your pup’s favorite season? What is yours?

We both like the fall! Since Pokey is a short nosed dog, she is sensitive to the heat and we can’t play out in the sun too much. However, life starts again in the fall, and I love being outside and taking pics of pokey in fall colors (and I love me some fall fashion!!)

♡ What is their favorite way to relax?

Pokey isn’t big on relaxation. She mostly just likes to play ball or play tug. All. The. Time. She could be exhausted and still want to play non-stop. She face beams with happiness, her eyes shine from the excitement, and her whole heart sings with joy when we play ball. It’s very hard to say no to her sweet happy face when she wants to play because nothing I could ever be doing instead would bring me a comparable amount of happiness.

♡ Are there activities you are looking forward to doing with your pup this summer?

Pokey loves the beach and chasing the waves, so I’m hoping to spend more time at the beach with her.  She doesn’t go in the water but she does get very wet. Chasing the waves gets her exhausted, so it’s a win win for both of us!!

♡ What does your BFF do that always makes you smile?

Pokey is just such a little GOOF!!! She makes my whole heart smile with all her silly antics. I call her my cartoon dog because she is the gooberiest goober there ever was, and I wouldn’t have it any other way

♡ Any secrets about them you can share with us?

Do not be fooled by Pokey’s cute round face and sweet eyes. She could fart you into oblivion!

♡ Do they have a favorite summer treat?

Pokey is not treat motivated unfortunately, so it’s very hard to get her into treats. However, we did just read a great recipe for peanut butter popsicles that I just tried out.. but I think I liked it better than she did!

♡ Does your pooch like to swim?

I’m trying to get Pokey comfortable enough to enter the water and swim. There is a pond at a park near us where dog are allowed to swim, and Pokey runs along the edge of the water watching all the other dogs. I know she could swim if she just went in the water, but she views it as a giant bathtub (and who would want that?) 🙂 I’m going to keep trying trying!

♡ Where’s your dog’s favorite place to go?

The park!!!! Pokey knows the way to our neighborhood park and always assumes we are going there every time we leave the house. If I turn to go somewhere else, she stops in her tracks and tries to convince me that I am wrong, and that I really meant to go to the park. I have to tell her that we are not going to the park right now, we are going elsewhere. She stands her ground and insists that I am mistaken, and we really ARE going to the park. We have to have this conversation every time I want to go anywhere other than the park!!

♡ Do you travel together often?

Yes! I take the Pokers with me every where I go! We live in San Francisco and explore California often. Pokey loves to hike, and the bay area has endless places to go hiking! Within California, we have been to Carmel, Monterey, Yosemite Park, San Simeon, Cambria. Pokey has also been to Boston, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Los Angeles, Joshua Tree, Palm Springs.. lol

♡ What are your top tips for being the best dog parent?

Don’t let your dog railroad you like I let my dog railroad me!! 🙂 Pokey is the MASTER of sad eye manipulation, and I’m a sucker, I fall for it every time!!!
