It’s a well-known fact that cats rule all (seriously – have you ever tried convincing a cat otherwise?) These balls of fur and sass have always had strong personalities. Be it adorably ruining scholarly duties or even holding political office, there’s nothing that can’t be achieved with the proud determination (and adorbs face) of a cat.

 

Stubbs

Sadly deceased in July of 2017, Stubbs is particularly notable for having held the office of mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska for 20 years. A tail-less wonder, Stubbs began his life abandoned in a box of kittens in a parking lot. Quickly becoming a local sensation, Stubbs soon won his seat as a write-in candidate, and held office until his passing. It is rumored that another cat, Denali, may take over the vacant seat.

Medieval Mischief Maker

Picture this: 14^th Century Croatia. A monk hard at work transcribing a medieval manuscript. A cat, if his infinite feline-ness, leaps ups to show who’s boss, knocks over an ink well, and leaves his indelible mark on the pages. Our intrepid little hero’s history-making paw prints are proof positive that even in medieval times it was Cats: 1, Work: 0.

Larry

Stubbs is not the only politically minded cat out there! Larry, of 10 Downing Street, has assisted the Prime Minister for over a decade and holds the title of Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office. He is officially noted as a civil servant, and upholds duties not only in mousing but also in greeting guests and testing the napping qualities of antique furniture.

This literary-minded feline was once companion to Edgar Allen Poe, who was himself an avid cat lover. It is recorded that her favorite perch was Poe’s shoulder. In fact, she was so beloved by the famous author, that she even inspired his 1843 story The Black Cat.

This cool cat holds the very important distinction of being the first cloned pet! Her surrogate mother was a tabby, and her genetic donor was a calico. In 2006, CC even gave birth to four kittens, three of whom are thriving today! CC is truly a pioneer.

This adorable boy holds the enviable title of Richest Cat – in fact, he’s richer than most people! Upon his loving owner’s passing, Blackie was left over £15million pounds, making him the wealthiest pet ever. Now, some of that money did ultimately end up going to animal charities, but there is still no denying that that’s a heck of a lot of cash for one cat!

Crème Puff

Living to the incredibly ripe old age of 38 years and 3 days old, Crème Puff is famous for being the oldest cat ever. Born in 1967, she was featured in an early Guinness Book of World Records. There must be something in this killer gene pool, too, as she had a brother born in 1964 who lived to be 34 years old. If you calculate cat years to human years, Crème Puff was around 169!

Orangey

A bona fide movie star, Orangey is perhaps most well known for playing Audrey Hepburn’s cat, “Cat” in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which won him his second Patsy Award (Picture Animal Top Star of the Year.) He had a reputation as a bit of a diva onset, sometimes literally biting the hands that would feed, but he was still highly sought after for his trainability and willingness to stay in one location for hours on end.

A true icon, Tabby was not only the beloved pet of President Abraham Lincoln, but also the first cat ever to live in the White House, setting off quite a trend of presidential pets.
